The Domaine:
“I do only one concert a year”, and there is no rehearsal between two dates… during the harvest! “ said by musician-winegrower Yves Gangloff.

Alsatian by birth, Yves Gangloff who was a rock musician , arrived in the Rhône in the 1980s and visited his brother Pierre, a painter living at the Château d'Ampuis. Yves Gangloff met his wife Mathilde and worked in farm at Delas. He discovered a passion for the world of vines and wine while working on the hard slopes of Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu.

The couple embarked on the adventure of vine-growing when Gaston André, a winegrower, who rented his plots to Delas Frères, offered to give him his vines.   Initially giving half of his harvests to the merchants, but when they refused to buy their harvest in 1992, Yves Gangloff decided to make his own wine.

Today, the Yves Gangloff estate is one of the best producers in the northern Rhône Valley. He continue to work from 1 hectares to 11 hectares of vines on granite and schist soils with support from his children.

The Wine:
Côte-Rôtie Barbarine 2018 is a blend of Syrah from 3 small plots which planted between 1989 and 2002. Each terroir brings its brick and its nuances to the building, while sharing the same granite soil. On the hillsides of Turpin, the Syrah offers beautiful expressive maturity, with a decidedly spicy dimension. The Combard vineyard brings a real mineral finesse. On the locality of Rozier, it is the complexity that we come to seek. Another “secret” of this cuvée, Yves blends a hint of Viognier (around 5%) with the Syrah, from his Condrieu plots: it provides additional floral finesse and further enriches the extraordinary aromatic palette of the wine. Vinified in stainless steel vats and then matured for nearly two years in large barrels,

Nose :  With blueberries, crushed blackberries, blackcurrant coulis and black cherries. Then comes a suave and concentrated floral dimension, evoking an essential oil of violet and blooming peonies, completed with a spicy and invigorating touch, associating pepper and zan. A discreet smoky touch, even larded, hovers above the glass and whets our appetite!

Palate: Joyful: frank expression of red and black fruits, voluptuousness of the material, tannins of rare finesse, wavy and caressing length, this mineral grain and this peppery dimension which stimulate the taste buds. Exceptional final intensity.

Food-wine pairing: Roast beef, veal or lamb.
