A large clay-limestone terroir which shelters a clos of 1 ha 07 of Carignans and Grenaches planted in 1909. Fineness combines with power, elegance with straightforwardness in a bouquet of mineral energy. This wine goes with great class with meats, game and cheeses. To taste over 10 years. A wine that speaks of respect.
Primarily Carignan planted in 1909, the 2017 Minervois Cazelles Les Carretals is easily one of my favorite examples of this sometimes maligned (even by me) variety. Briary red raspberries lead the way in this medium to full-bodied wine, which aged entirely in parts of Burgundy. Hints of vanilla and baking spices help tame the wiry green tendrils that stick out of the fruit, bringing them back into harmonious balance on the silky-textured finish.
