Located on a mild terroir of slopes, between « Clavin » and « les Hauts-lieux », the grenache is perfectly at home there with this mosaic of safres's sands, pebbles and red clays, producing a perfect balance of power and finesse
Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Trois Sources 2020 is a signature cuvée, showcasing the full complexity of its terroir. This vintage presents an intense and refined nose, blending ripe dark fruits, sweet spices, garrigue, and floral hints. On the palate, the balance between power and finesse is remarkable, with a silky tannic structure and impressive freshness. Aged in large foudres, this wine maintains its pure fruit character and will evolve beautifully over decades.
WINEMAKING
The vinification process remains entirely traditional, with fermentation occurring naturally and without any additives. Only indigenous yeasts are used, allowing each terroir to express its unique character and each vintage to reveal its singular identity. After a long, slow fermentation, the wines are transferred to large oak foudres for aging. They spend one year maturing in these old barrels, followed by six months in bottle. Bottling takes place after 18 months of aging, without fining or filtration.
TASTING NOTE
This wine shows a dense, inky purple hue with rich, elegant aromas of red‑ and black‑berry fruits, including raspberry, black cherry, cassis, complemented by herbal garrigue, liquorice, and hints of pepper and earth. On the palate it is powerful yet poised, with lush fruit, fine-grained tannins, refreshing acidity, and a long, minerally-saline finish.
FOOD MATCHING
A fine match with roast lamb, aged meats, game, herby stews, grilled aubergine, wild mushroom dishes, or firm cheeses .
